Our Story

Rooted in tradition

Weaving functional, modern heirlooms in our Winchester, UK studio

Helde is a handweaving studio based in Winchester, UK, crafting functional textiles for the home and body. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, using natural fibres and historical weaving techniques with a contemporary twist. Our designs reflect our commitment to slow living, quiet luxury and respect for the natural world. Helde (pronounced HEHL-DA), takes inspiration from the Middle English word for “heddle,” a loom component at the very heart of the weaving process.

Sustainable, small batch textiles woven in the UK

Today, based in the historic town of Winchester, on the edge of the South Downs National Park in southern England, I create limited-edition textiles in my little backyard studio, under the name of Helde Handweaving Studio. Using a vintage, wooden, foot-powered floor loom, I produce only a few collections each year, adding them to the shop as they are completed. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, made with a strong commitment to quality, heritage, and sustainability.

I work exclusively with natural fibres sourced from suppliers within the UK and Europe. Some of my yarns are dyed by hand, allowing me to create a rich and exclusive colour palette for my work. I reinterpret traditional European and North American weaving patterns, always adding my own modern touch through playful proportions and unexpected colour combinations.

Meaningful gifts that blend beauty & function

Handwoven with intention and care, our handwoven textiles make wonderful gifts to add warmth, comfort, colour, texture, and individuality to the home.

Crafted with quality materials, Helde pieces are one-of-kind, designed to become treasured heirlooms, and resonate with those who appreciate appreciate history, sustainability and the preservation of heritage crafts.

By choosing a handwoven Helde piece, you’re not just giving a gift; you’re supporting an independent maker, keeping traditional weaving skills alive and promoting the use of natural fibres like wool and linen.
